Code of Conduct
THE CODE OF CONDUCT
The Code of Conduct applies to all students while on school property, at school-sponsored
events, during travel to and from school, and within virtual learning environments. It
promotes a safe, respectful, and productive atmosphere for all.
1. Dress Code
To ensure that the educational process is conducted in an environment where safety risks, disruptions, and distractions are minimized, all students will adhere to the standards set forth by Star Light School. Generally, student dress should be appropriate for the age, grade level, stage of development, and physical facility.
At Star Light School students shall not wear the following items:
- Clothing that is transparent or exposes the midriff, navel, or cleavage.
- Pants, skirts, and/or shorts that sag below the waistline or must be held in place with the hands.
- Clothing that is too tight and/or is inappropriate in length.
- Shorter than six (6) inches above the student’s mid-knee; or
- Inappropriate footwear including, but not limited to shower shoes and beach shoes, bedroom slippers, and shoes missing appropriate closures.
- Head coverings but are not limited to hat, cap, hoodie, stocking cap, wave cap, scarve, or bandanas.
2. Alcohol Use, Possession, and /or Sale Distribution
Students are forbidden:
- To be under the influence of alcohol, distribute, attempt to distribute,
- To sell alcohol in any form, or to have such items on school property, in vehicles on school property, or at school activities.
3. Assault/Battery on Students or Staff
- Intentional verbal or physical abuse by a student on another student or staff is forbidden.
- Exceptions may result when the evidence supports that a student is assaulted and then acted solely in self-defense after having made previous efforts to avoid such confrontations and/or reporting concerns to the administrative staff.
3. BUS CONDUCT
- a. Please be at the bus stop at least 10 minutes before your scheduled pickup time.
- b. If you are not at the bus stop, we will not wait for you.
- c. Please refrain from chewing gum and eating food on the bus
- d. Please refrain from consuming drinks on the bus except water
- e. Please pick up trash and place it in the trash can in the front of the bus.
- f. Follow directions given by the driver and bus attendant.
- g. Use appropriate language.
- h. Sit in your assigned seat assigned by the driver.
- i. Refrain from screaming and yelling.
- j. Throwing objects on a bus is not allowed.
- k. Keep hands and feet to yourself.
4. Electronic Devices
- Students may possess a cellular telephone, smartphone, tablet, or other communications device on school property, including school buses.
- The device must remain off and out of sight during instructional time.
- If a student possesses a device other than as permitted in this policy, in addition to other disciplinary sanctions that may be imposed, the device may be confiscated from the student and returned only to the student’s parents.
5. Fighting/Altercation
- Mutual participation in a fight or altercation involving physical violence or verbal abuse is forbidden. Engaging in a physical fight, regardless of which participant is the aggressor, is defined as fighting.
- Exceptions may result when the evidence supports that a student is assaulted, acted solely in self-defense, or made previous efforts to avoid such confrontations (e.g., reporting concerns to a staff member).
6. Technologie Use Violations
Star Light School provides access to extensive web-based services and applications and the use of all these services is a privilege, not a right.
- Students may be held accountable for misuse or abuse of division hardware, software, and network or internet services.
- Violations include but are not limited to unauthorized use of, revealing, sharing, or transferring any user password but also in uploadling or downloading unauthorized files not directly related to an instructional purpose, intentionally altering or damaging files, applications, or standard hardware.
7. Tobacco/Electronic Cigarette
- Students are forbidden to:
- Use, distribute, or sell tobacco products, including smokeless tobacco,
- Have tobacco on school property, at school activities, or on school transportation.
- Possess and/or use electronic cigarettes and vaporizer pens on school buses, on school property, and at school-sponsored activities.
8. Trespassing
- Entering or remaining on a school campus or school board facility without authorization or invitation and with no purpose for entry is forbidden.
- Students under suspension, expulsion, and in an alternative education placement are forbidden to enter or remain on a campus or school board facility.
9. Damage to School or Personal Property
Students who are found responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged equipment due to misconduct or negligence shall be held liable for the cost of replacement of the lost, stolen, or damaged equipment.
10. Disciplinary Sanctions
In case of non-compliance with the rules, educational or disciplinary measures may be taken:
- Warnings
- Meetings with parents
- Temporary suspensions (in serious cases)
11. Acceptance of the Regulations
These rules must be read, signed, and respected by all students and their parents or guardians.
